Ralph Lauren’s Fall 2012 collection shown this week at the close of New York Fashion Week took inspiration from the ‘English manor’. Now English period tv shows such as Downton Abbey are proving popular around the world, the womenswear collection gave a nod to classic English tailoring. With tweed, fairisle, club collars and tartan ties, the looks were decidedly masculine yet managed not to feel too androgynous, maintaining a feminine edge. Proof from Mr Lauren, as ever, of the lasting cross-Atlantic influence between US and UK style.
